MOTHER’S DAY MOVIES I LOVE!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the baby’s mamas. I woke up to a great Mother’s Day kiss and the sound of dishes in the dishwasher. My son took on the responsibility of our dog Nola today because she is a baby and is in potty training mode. And he even told me we could watch some Mother’s Day movies. Anyone who knows me knows that I am a huge movie buff and I have some favorites I tend to watch every year. I won’t make him watch the super old ones lol. But below is my list with descriptions on my top six to enjoy in celebration of Mothers. Let me know some of your favorite

Crooklyn

Black family raising their five children in Brooklyn in the 70’s dealing with various struggles. The mother, played by Alfred Woodard, gets cancer and her only daughter steps up to try and fill her shoes. The movie depicts the truth about motherhood and the ultimate need for the mother in the black family.

The Joy Luck Club

Moving depicting the lives of four Asian women who fled China in the 40’s and their four Americanized daughters. A novel turned movie showing the conflicting relationships between mothers and daughters and the inherent bond that’s always between them despite their many differences.

Soul Food

Story of a Chicago Family and the loss of their Big Mama, the matriarch of the family. Along the way they try to hold on to their family tradition, for example Sunday dinner, their childhood home, and their family relationship. In the end we learn it’s ultimately about family!

The Blind Side

Movie depicts the story of Michael Oher a homeless, black teen who ultimately became an All-American football player and first-round NFL draft pick with the help of a caring mother and her family. One thing that grabs out at you from this story is a mother’s love no matter what.

Steel Magnolias

A comedy-drama taken place in Louisiana during the 80’s. The main characters involve a group of tightly knit, gossiping group of women friends coined as Southern belles strong and capable of surviving life’s challenges. In the end they all have to come together due to a tragic turn of events centered mother M’Lynn and her daughter Shelby.

Imitation of Life

Moved based on the novel by Fannie Hurst delivers the story of a white single mother, Lora, with aspirations of being a star on Broadway and her black widow maid, Annie, who is the caretaker of her daughter. Both women deal with the struggles of motherhood as Lora pursuit of fame threatens her relationship with her daughter and Annie deals with her mixed-race daughter’s struggle with her Black-American identity.

Other Movies to Enjoy with Mom!
